Israeli Holidays: Jerusalem Day

May 22 is Jerusalem Day. It’s the newest holiday on our calendar, which is only 53 years old. On the 28th of Iyar 1,897 years after the Romans burned our Temple and Jerusalem and exiled our people, we came home! This is one of history’s greatest miracles. In ancient times, when nations were conquered and exiled by other nations, they disappeared from the face of history. But not the Jewish people! For 2,000 years, we never forgot Jerusalem and prayed for the day that we would return!
